Egypt’s Hedeya Malak Wahba was the reason the Egyptian flag was hung high along with the national anthem in Mexico. Hedaya earned a gold medal in the Taekwondo finals held in Mexico.

In the final matches of the female -57kg category, Egypt’s Hedaya Malak took on London 2012’s gold medalist Jane Jones. Jones stated that she “Gave up the gold medal easily”, however, Hedeya’s great performance was noticeable when she then won Spain’s Eva Calvo Gomez, making her the Egyptian triumphant by superiority.
